A Day at the Airport

by Richard Scarry

For ages 2-6 years

Richard Scarry is, of course, one of the Savvy Source's most beloved classic authors. We think the way his drawings delight while the jam-packed pages do explosive work on a child's vocabulary is simply masterful. And what better way to spend the day at the airport than with A Day at the Airport - a little dash of metaphysics for the younger set! And because this book is fairly overflowing with things and words and scenes and pictures, in classic Scarry style, it just may justify itself for a spot in all that luggage, instead of the, oh, 19 or so other stories that your little one thinks he just has to bring along.

$3.99

Oops -- important correction here! Von Flugel and the kids DRIVE through the airport in his WWII-bomber-shaped car. The flying comes later in a bratwurst-shaped balloon. See, I told you this story was fun.

I've known Huckle the Cat, Tilly the Hippo and Lowly Worm since I was a child, and my kids love them just as much as I did (and still do). The story is simple enough (pilot Rudolf Von Flugel takes Huckle, Sally and Lowly on a flying tour of the airport), but this book is so chock-full of Richard Scarry's meticulously labeled, funny drawings that we don't even need to read the story's words to enjoy the book .
