The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes
by Dubose Heyward and Marjorie Hack
For ages 3+ years
This is a classic story that remains as unexpected, original, and uplifting as the day it was written. A little "country girl bunny with a brown skin and a cotton-ball of a tail" dreams of becoming an Easter Bunny, but the other rabbits only laugh at her. And indeed, she grows up to become a mother bunny with twenty-one babies to care for (and we thought we were busy!). But not to be deterred, she trains her little ones to take care of each other and the household all by themselves (the pictures of wee bunnies doing the housework are priceless). Her kindness, wisdom, determination, and superlative parenting skills are, as you can guess, rewarded in the end. Far more than simply another holiday tale, this beautiful book is one that children and parents will want to return to again and again, whatever the season.
