100 Hoops

by Leap Frog

For ages 2 to 6 years

Sports and counting (or scorekeeping) go together, so we can't help but applaud a new toy that allows our little ones to practice both at the same time. As your child shoots and dunks, this basketball net will add up the points on its electronic scoreboard, and announce them to the roar of a cheering crowd. You can program the game to add points by intervals of 1, 2, 5, or 10, to count backwards, or even to count in Spanish each time the player scores. Small hoopsters will hone their counting skills along with their jump shots, and the bigger b-ball enthusiasts in your house will no doubt enjoy the game as well.

My son is obsessed with basketball -- or baa'ball as he calls it -- and this toy is the perfect thing to help develop both his fine and gross motor skills while he learns numbers and how to count. The hoop and ball are well sized for small hands. As usual with most LeapFrog toys, this one teaches in both English and Spanish.
