The Original Magna Doodle

by Ohio Art

For ages 2-6 years

Some of our favorite travel treats are the simplest ones of all - post-its for the one-year-old set and seemingly tear-proof index cards and washable markers for the preschoolers. And the Magna Doodle for everyone! Yes, it's the same charming toy that you remember from being a kid, and yes, it's still as fun. There is a travel version that is a mite smaller, but if you can squeeze the full-sized one into your luggage, so much the better. It's the ultimate no mess toy, and of course, that is the express lane to our hearts. This one also comes was little stamps to make icons and shapes amid the scribbles, and everything snaps into one case for easy carrying. (On the no-mess travel drawing front, we also adore Aquadoodle Mini Mats of various designs, including Sesame Street, Thomas the Tank Engine and tons of others. Add water to the barrel of the pen and let your child's imagination take it from there!)

A perfect on-the-go toy. My older son loves drawing pictures and my younger son especially likes the shape stamps. It's perfect for letting your littlest ones practice their scribbling because there's no mess to worry about.

A magna doodle might just land on my top ten list of "must have" toys. With no mess to worry about, my children can draw with this toy where ever and whenever. My son and I love to play the "squiggle" game on this toy - he draws a squiggle and I try to draw and turn it into something. It's a great way to pass time and have some fun together!

Ok, I have to admit, I can get additcted to the Magna Doodle. I will find myself making my son a picture and then lingering so I can stamp it with one of the four stamps or erase and start fresh. The built in tray that holds the stamps is nice and keeps everything neat and tidy for travel. We have taken this on car trips and have the smaller one for airplane trips.

Our family LOVES Magna Doodles. We have them in many, many sizes, including a travel size one for each child. You would think that they would eventually bore of the activity, but, no, its the type toy that grows with your child. My kindergartner now uses it to practice his writing one. And my preschooler is now experimenting with it by using magnets from out fridge!

If you have an aspiring artist, this is the green way to go. No paper or paint is necessary - just stamp, draw and swipe to start again. What I love most about the Doodle is how fascinated the kids get when their artwork disappears. I have yet to explain to them where it goes...

I just love the Magna Doodle because it can go anywhere and there's NO MESS. My son has been drawing on one for ages, and my one-year-old is now addicted, too. They both love the magic of being able to create a picture and then erase it with the flip of a lever. Get a travel size one, too--great for car trips.

This is one of those toys that is a must on a car trip - whether you're driving down the street to the grocery store or across the country. It's not messy, it doesn't make any noise and best of all it doesn't require and batteries. Well, maybe the fact that it doesn't make any noise is the best thing about it.

There is no cooler backseat or restaurant toy than the magna doodle. My daughter's been a fan since she was around 14 months old and even now frequently packs one in her go-along bag. She's also discovered that any magnet will work -- from fridge to other toy parts. We always have two of these -- it's good to have a backup!
