Event Information

Winter Bird Count for Kids Inspired by a century-old tradition, experienced birders will lead groups of children around Heinz NWR and other local spots to discover the various bird species that spend winter in the area. Possible sightings include a nice variety of hawks, waterfowl, sparrows, finches, and Bald Eagles. The program will start with a brief welcome and orientation. After the bird excursions, groups will return to the visitor center to enjoy a lunch and share their groups' sightings with their new birding friends. The program will conclude with some special guests! Remember to dress for the cold weather! This is a cooperative effort with Friends of Heinz NWR, Fledging Birders Institute, and the Pennsylvania Young Birders Club.
