The Huntington Beach Annual Kite Party kicks off at 11:00 a.m. on March 13th on the north side of the pier in Huntington Beach and continues on Sunday, March 14th. Bring the whole family for a day or two of incredible kite flying. Professional kite flyers from around the country will put their most beautiful kites and tricks on display for your enjoyment. Be sure to arrive early for good parking. Both beach lots and metered street parking available. Check http://www.stockteam.com/parking2.html for a map of parking locations. Put a stoller in the trunk in case parking is limited and you need to walk a bit. The walk will be worth it, but you don't want to have tired tots at the beach, so come prepared with wheels for them to ride in comfort.
Dress in warm layers, pack blankets, towels, sand toys, chairs for parents, a cooler with drinks and snacks, and be sure to bring a change of clothes for your munchkins (since most can't resist the temptation to play in the waves even on a cold day). If you want to travel with less gear, plan for lunch at Duke's, at the front of the pier where you might catch some kite viewing inside, or Ruby's, at the end of the pier, where you might choose to go for a little jaunt with wiggly little ones who have already had a few hours of kite-viewing.
Your family will be entranced by the variety of colorful kites on display, from gigantic animal characters to streamline stunt kites. Bring your camera and binoculars. Children are fascinated by the magnification and detail of kites so far in the distance. Kites will be available for purchase and the public is welcome to fly their kites outside the roped off areas. This year be sure to take advantage of the free sport flying kite lessons!
