One Fish, Two Fish

It's a silly book. It's a strange book. It's the perfect introduction to Dr. Seuss . In this most nonsensical of nonsense poems, Dr. Seuss teaches rhythm, rhyme and the delights of manipulating language. He also teaches the fundamental precept of Seussian philosophy: "Everyday, from here to there, funny things are everywhere." Our children know that already, but we parents do need the reminder once in a while. Thank goodness for Dr. Seuss!

Doesn't every child have this book? Dr. Seuss is great for kids of all ages. The rhyming is essential for the young ones and helps those a little older to start reading. The sing songy lyrics are so fun to read.

This is one of those classic books that I read as a child and knew that I had to share with Cara. She gets the simple humor of the book and it's a great way to go over her colors and numbers without it seeming like a lesson.

Fun, fun, fun! Fun to read, fun to hear. Great way to introduce colors and and opposites. It's such basic words I suggested the Spanish teacher at my son's preschool read it to them in Spanish. It worked well because they knew what it was supposed to be in English and easily made the association with the Spanish word.

I had almost forgotten how much fun this book is. Fish are a big hit, we we like reading about all the different kinds of them. It is great for developing a sense of humor with all of the wonderful creatures in the Seuss world.

It was fun to buy this book as an adult - it had been years since I had read it myself. As silly as it is, it is such a fun read and my kids just laugh and laugh at the fun rhymes and ridiculous and colourful illustrations. This book gets a HUGE thumbs up from my whole family!!!

My son loved numbers as a preschooler and still does, a couple years late. This was one of his favorites "back in the day," and in fact, he loves just about anything Dr. Seuss--These are books that are truly timeless since I remember reading them when I was a kid.

This was one of the first books I read to my children from babies on. The lyrical sounds entrance them even when they don't understand anything I'm saying. The fun pictures provide many "why" and "what" questions as they get older. I've noticed that now my 3 yo makes up her own silly poems of words that don't make sense...latent memories of One Fish, Two Fish I bet!

Who can resist the rhymes and rhythms of Dr. Suess and his magical crew of creatures? My daughter loves the little fish driving a car and she asks a zillion questions about the nighttime march of the wild characters in this book. I've found that Suess books really do grow with the child, Gigi has had this one since birth and still requests it on a regular basis. Suess is silly for all the ages.

We love reading about all nonsensical Dr. Seuss creatures in this book -- the Gox, the Wump, the Zans, and all the rest. I have read this book so many times that I can recite the first five pages from memory (my kids can probably do the first three). The rhyming in this book is so strong, it's a great tool for teaching children how to rhyme words ("I box in yellow gox box socks"), and eventually how to read them.
