This magical tale is much the tale of Eric Carle's life, as the afterword explains, starting from the story of his own childhood with a grandmother who showed him the power of creativity and expression. Like the animals in his other books seeing or hearing each other across the pages, each of the artist's creations in this book asks for a new creation, culminating in the drawing of the whole world, or at least its essential parts. (And yes, perhaps we should warn you, there are two nude figures, with their essential parts too, but in a most tasteful, classic Carle way.) This book will inspire many artistic creations by its little readers -- not the least of which will be the star that the Carle-led directions lead you through!
