Since 1969 Canoe Island French Camp has been exciting youngsters from 9-16 with healthy outdoor activities, creative opportunities in art and drama, an introduction to French and French culture and wonderful French food that even picky eaters love -- not your usual camp fare!
On private 47-acre Canoe Island in the San Juan Islands, 45 campers each session have a chance to listen to a seal slapping in the Salish Sea, watch a bald eagle soar on the ocean breeze, bake or creme brulée, eat boeuf bourguignon or try fencing for the first time. Counselors from France share their language and culture while being able to provide emotional support and safety in English making beginning French speakers as comfortable as those more advanced. Activities are diverse and varied: Kayaking, sailing, theater, art, French cooking, snorkeling, photography, fencing, and swimming, and tennis, plus many more.
Family camp over Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend is a perfect beginning or end to the summer for all ages. French is optional but offered on these weekends. This is a great way to find out about Canoe Island and all it offers before sending your child to sleep-away camp.
For parents who want a getaway without children: try our Yoga or Artists' Weekend in the Spring and our Patisserie by the Sea: the Art of French Pastry and Chocolate taught by pastry chefs coming from France especially for Canoe Island.
