Improvisation as a curriculum to teach acting skills works by using a sequential set of theater games. The games teach the student in an organic and fun way, to quickly and spontaneously use his imagination to create stories that have a beginning, middle, and an end on stage. Students will also learn basic theater terminology, scene study, character study, how to deliver a monologue, work with props, write their own auto-drama (like an autobiography) and basic mime. Fun, fun, fun! While using a set curriculum, and specific acting techniques is key, each class will be dynamic, and free flowing. No class is ever the same! By mixing skill levels, children are able to learn from each other, allowing students the opportunity to solve problems within a scene collectively. Imagine Actors Playhouse will provide a non-competitive environment where every child will learn to be creative, imaginative, and spontaneous taking risks with out the fear of looking silly. Every child will have the opportunity to shine, even shy children! Imagine Actors Playhouse will birth actors who are both self-confident and creative, actors who work very well one on one, or in an ensemble.
