Camp Joy was founded in 1938 by the St. Barnabus Episcopal Church. Financial support came primarily from interested friends in the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio. Joy’s original location was in Kentucky, but it was moved shortly thereafter to a 25-acre site near Batavia, Ohio, where the summer camp program was conducted through 1945. The name JOY came from a camp that had been in operation in Batavia.
