Activities supplement, rather than replicate, school-day learning and include learning strategies such as instruction embedded in the visual and expressive arts, self directed learning, collaborative and group work, reading clubs, project based learning, computer assisted instruction, and community service projects. Support services are offered that enable young people to remain actively engaged in education and enjoy learning.
The educational component is specifically designed to assist and empower children to cope psychologically with the effects of having their parents imprisoned by providing a safe place to learn and interact with other children in similar situations. The program offers small group learning, and tutoring and homework assistance supervised by New York City licensed teachers five days a week.
