The Delaware Art Museum’s summer program for children ages 6 – 12 provides a creative experience in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Camp is held in the Museum’s Bank of America Education Wing and includes regular visits to the Museum’s galleries and the Copeland Sculpture Garden. Young artists participate in classes in the children’s studio and the ceramics studio during each day of camp. Camp is full-day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each session will be divided into two age groups: 6 – 9 years old and 10 – 12 years old.

Session 1: Animal Adventures June 20 – July 1, 2011 $500 for Family PLUS Members and above $550 Non-Members

Come on an adventure through the Museum and explore animals in artwork such as Deborah Butterfield’s Riot and Abbott Handerson Thayer’s The Old Lion. Creative artwork will be inspired by all kinds of animals, both real and imagined. Projects include ceramic figures, cut paper designs, and roaring masks.

Session 2: Faces and Places July 5 – July 15, 2011 (no camp July 4) $450 for Family PLUS Members and above $500 Non-Members

There are so many people to see and places to go in the Museum! Campers will find inspiration in the Museum’s collection while making their own artwork full of faces and places! Learn the art of portraits and landscapes through drawing, painting, printing, and ceramics. Projects will include masks, imagined landscapes, self portraits and more.

Session 3: Magical, Fantastical Art July 18 – July 29, 2011 $500 for Family PLUS Members and above/$550 Non-Members

Art is full of illusions and magic! Uncover the techniques of the masters as you discover how shape, form, pattern, color, and line can magically change a work of art. Inspired by the summer exhibition Perception/Deception, campers will learn “secret” techniques and interesting applications to make their own optical illusions with paintings, prints, and sculptures. Put together the clues of the art world to reveal your own creativity.

Session 4: The Artist’s Toolbox August 1 – August 12, 2011 $500 for Family PLUS Members and above $550 Non-Members
