"Do you want to give your child a total Mandarin immersion and Chinese art experience without leaving the country? Come and join our Mandarin and Art Summer Camp conveniently located in San Francisco. The AAS Mandarin and Art Summer Camp is designed for children entering Kindergarten through 4 grade. This program will give them a unique opportunity to learn and improve their language skills in Mandarin, while deepening their knowledge of Chinese culture and art through age appropriate play-based classes and activities in Mandarin. In summer 2011, Asian Arts Studio celebrates its association with the Confucius Institute at San Francisco State University again by inviting a Mandarin teacher from that institution to join our 2011 summer camp staff. The camp consists of 9 one-week sessions that begin May 30 and end July 29. The basic program is from 8:30 am to 3 pm with an extended day option that lasts until 6pm. The students participate in classes conducted in Mandarin that include such culturally rich activities as drawing, Chinese brush painting, playing the yaogu (the Chinese waist drum), Chinese folk songs and poetry, and more. Field trips will be arranged for landscape drawing during the camp. All sessions, including the extended care, will be conducted in Mandarin. The Mandarin and Art Summer Camp is a small-sized camp with a maximum of 15 students. Each student will receive personalized instruction and care. Students will receive Mandarin instruction according to their fluency rather than their grade or age. The camp’s goal is to teach the children basic Mandarin communication skills while they are having fun with a variety of hands-on activities and games."
