Project Courage (Two Sessions: June 12-25, 2011 OR July 3-16, 2011): Embark on a 14-day outdoor adventure that inspires self-discovery, creative expression, and fun. Paddle your sea kayak on Tomales Bay, rock climb beside the windswept Sonoma Coast, and backpack through stunning Point Reyes National Seashore. As a group, you will learn to live outdoors, sleeping on beaches and under stars, as you navigate challenges, learn new skills, and support one another. Friendship, laughter, and new experiences await you on this exciting adventure! Transitions (One Session: July 30-August 12, 2011): The sky is the limit on this 14-day expedition through the breathtaking backcountry of California's Sierra Nevada mountains. Rock climb up granite domes, use teamwork to explore Helms Creek Canyon, and test your courage as you rappel off towering cliffs with grace! Learn backcountry survival skills as your group treks through this wilderness of pristine alpine lakes and mountain peaks. You will experience strength and confidence, powerful connections with your new friends, and exhilarating fun! On The Rise (One Session: July 25-31, 2011): Join us as we head back to Point Reyes for a 7-day backpacking expedition. The landscape will be familar but the course will be a whole new adventure as you approach it through the eyes of an Instructor-In-Training. We know you KNOW the skills: this is your opportunity to learn how to TEACH the skills... and have a blast while practicing! We'll start with a day the Fort Mily Challenge Course to get our team off to a tight start. Passing the ever beloved Alamere Falls we'll wind our way back through the Point Reyes National Sea Shore from a whole new perspective. Along the way we'll take our time to practice an advanced level leadership. Thinking beyond how to get yourself and your peers from point A to point B, to now consider how to lead and inspire a group of younger girls to rise to such a challenge: how do you keep them safe and engaged while keeping it fun and educational all at the same time?!? We'll spend our last night in style at the Point Reyes Youth Hostel before returning home for rite of passage into the "Instructor" world. We hope alum from this course will continue on to apply for the Girls Advisory Board and to become Assistant Instructors for GirlVentures!
