A Month's Worth of Reflections and Resolutions

January 31, 2009

What a wonderful month it has been!  We at Being Savvy have spent the last four weeks taking in the very big picture of parenting, and oh, have we enjoyed the long, sweeping gaze across the horizon of our lives.

And what have we seen, and what have we made of our new perspective?

We made -- and try every day to keep -- some wise resolutions suggested by expert Jacque Grillo.

We grounded ourselves with our favorite parenting books.  And we've done some thinking about other inspiring models of parenting.

We looked up and around and far beyond our immediate surroundings, taking in the biggest picture:  the five things that really matter with little ones (and what really doesn't)

We've made (at least the first draft) of another cherished list: 99 Things Our Kiddos Should Do Before Kindergarten.  And we've stretched our minds around what kindergarten readiness really means, anyhow.

We've danced around to songs that make the sun shine, if only in our hearts.  We've cuddled up to books about winter's delights.  We found great spots nearby to play inside.

We took a stroll down Memory Lane.  First we sharpened up memory skills with these great toys.  And then we got serious about keeping a record of these magical years in our families:  starting with the what and where to keep and ending with the strategies on how to make it really happen

We read our little ones books about getting started, getting up, new beginnings.

We've noticed how resolute and resilient our kids are (and how much we have to learn from them).  We took the mirror play of our own reflectiveness literally and played with mirrors, shadows and reflections with our little ones.

Our expert Ginger Carlson made family goal-setting seems wondrous -- and attainable!

We reminded ourselves to live more lightly on our planet.  Our expert 3 Green Moms even gave us 3 green resolutions!

We marked historic occasions with our little ones, from Dr. King's birthdayinauguration and the start of the Chinese New Year

We've added to our collection of inspirations -- this time about everything from trying to explain the depths of a parent's love, to keeping that love in small, easily spent currencies, to why we look back over our lives, through how childhood is an amazing show, to the auspiciousness of beginnings.

We were reflective even about being reflective parents!

Whew!  Big stuff, all around.  Now, we're looking ahead to more living with our new perspective!
