Holiday Parties, Preschool-Style
November 11, 2009
Have you been reckless enough to invite a bunch of preschoolers over to your house for a holiday get-together? Or did you impulsively volunteer to organize your preschool's December party?
In case the prospect is sending you into a slight panic, Being Savvy has a few tried and true ideas for a happy, easy holiday party for small kids. The truth is, the preschool crowd is pretty easy to please, so there's no need for anything too elaborate other than good friends and a few of the following activities:
- Caroling is always a hit with the little ones. Many of them may know the words to "Rudolf" or "Jingle Bells," but it's also worth putting together a song sheet with lyrics to your other holiday favorites so that the adults in the crowd can serenade the children -- they love it!
- In an eco- and wallet-friendly twist on Secret Santa, ask each guest to wrap up and bring a toy from home that they no longer play with much. Put all the gifts in a basket, and at the appointed time, let each child pick a present.
- Have the kiddos decorate sugar cookies or gingerbread men. Bake the cookies ahead of time and provide plenty of frosting and sprinkles and raisins and other decorative treats. (This always keeps the children busy and cheerful!)
