Personalizing Placemats
7 Vote(s)

With your child, cut out pictures from magazines of your child's favorite things - foods, toys, colors, etc. Give your child a glue stick and then help your child paste pictures onto a large sheet of construction paper, card stock, or poster board. Laminate your finished product and voila! - your very own customized placemat. A few other options: * Instead of using magazine.. ... Read more >

Around-Town Scavenger Hunt
6 Vote(s)

Pick one of your favorite places to visit: the aquarium, arboretum, or museum. Go to their website, and with your child, find pictures of 5-10 different things to look for. Then create a list for your child, adding pictures may be helpful for young ones. When you go to the place, you and your child will have a great time looking for those items. An alternate way to play is to find pictures.. ... Read more >

The Goldfish Game
6 Vote(s)

My children all played this precious snack-time game at their preschool, and it has remained our favorite way to eat goldfish crackers. How to play: Explain to your child that you're going to tell him a story while he eats, but he has to be patient and only eat when the story tells him to (sometimes this can be hard, so make sure your little one isn't starving when you start!). Pour a small.. ... Read more >

Bored with Board Games?
7 Vote(s)

After you've played Candy Land or Chutes & Ladders for the 10th time in one day, mix it up a bit by playing them in Spanish (or another language). Games that use only colors or numbers work best to keep it simple for your child (and you!).

Ages : 3-6 year olds

Materials Needed : Any board game you have at home and perhaps a Spanish-English dictionary if you're not familiar with the Spanish terms you'll need.

Hopscotch Spelling
6 Vote(s)

A great way to improve spelling skills while having fun! Using either sidewalk chalk or foam interlocking-letter squares (you can find them at Right Start or Ross), list the alphabet. Say a word and have your kid(s) spell out the word hopping on the letters. Younger kids can play by just finding a letter and then progressing to finding the letter that sounds like "ssss."

Ages : 3-6 year olds

Materials Needed : Sidewalk chalk or foam interlocking letters

Dot-to-Dot Writing
7 Vote(s)

The first word that each child usually learns to write is his or her name. If your child has a long name, like mine does, that can be a daunting task. Help to make those long (and short) names easier to practice writing by creating dot-to-dot letters for the name. Then your child can trace through the dots to practice the letters. At the end, your child will have a copy of her name that she.. ... Read more >

Let your child decorate a piece of construction paper in whatever manner he or she wishes -- using bingo dabbers, markers, crayons, stamps and stamp pads, stickers, etc. Then find a cute picture of your child and place a piece of double stick tape to the back. Let your child tape her picture anywhere she wants on the decorated construction paper. Next, type and print the following questions.. ... Read more >

You've Got Mail!
5 Vote(s)

Teach your preschooler about how the mail system works by writing a note together. Put the note in an envelope and address it to yourself (with your child's name, of course) and affix a stamp. Then take the letter to the mail box at the post office. Your child will be thrilled to receive it a couple days later, and the two of you can talk about how it got from one place to the next.

Ages : 3-5 year olds

Materials Needed : Paper, envelope, crayons/markers, stamp

Paper Bag Gingerbread Man
4 Vote(s)

Cut a Gingerbread Man out of a paper grocery bag. Let your kids decorate him with buttons and scraps of fabric and any other art supply you have on hand. Then read the story together and have a fun time acting out the different parts.

Ages : 3-6 year olds

Materials Needed : Paper grocery bag, fabric scraps, buttons, glue, markers and paint

Cinco Means Five
4 Vote(s)

A great thing to do on Cinco de Mayo is teach your little one some Spanish words! You can select five words such as five colors or five fruits or vegetable or maybe 5 days of the week. You can also teach five words each week after that and not only will your little one become familiarized with Spanish but you will too!

Ages : 1-6 year olds

Materials Needed : Internet, Spanish book, notebook
