Making Popovers
ages 2-6
Supplies
1 cup milk, 4 eggs, 1 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 4 tablespoons butter (cut in pieces), muffin pan
Activity Detail
Kids love to cook and this recipe is easy and rewarding. Let your preschooler pour ingredients into the bowl and help mix them all together. Begin by preheating the oven to 375 degrees. While preheating the oven, put your ungreased muffin pan in the oven so that it warms up. Next, melt 4 tablespoons of butter in the microwave until just liquified, about 20 seconds. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs and milk. Add flour and salt to the egg mixture and mix thoroughly to incorporate the ingredients and create your popover batter. Carefully remove the preheated muffin pan from the oven. Using a spoon, place some of the melted butter into each of the 12 muffin cups. Then, fill each muffin cup approximately 3/4 full with the batter. Bake the popovers in the oven for 35 minutes. Be sure not to open the oven while baking -- this will cause your popovers to fall!

Be sure to talk about measuring and let the child look at different measuring cups and spoons and guesstimate which is bigger or smaller.

Strawberry butter is delicious with popovers. Mix together butter, strawberry preserves, and a little confectioner's sugar for an additional treat.
