Clap, Pat, Drum to the Beat
ages 2-6
Supplies
Your body; simple instruments optional.
Activity Detail
See what kind of rhythms you can make with just your own body. This can be done with two people or a whole group. Begin by clapping. Clap a slow, steady beat until everyone is clapping in unison. Then clap slowly and quickly. Can you add a pat? Clap, clap, pat...or pat, pat clap. You decide! Drum the floor using two hands at the same time. Can everyone do it together? How does it sound different if you alternate hands? This activity can also be done with simple instruments like homemade shakers, building blocks you can tap together, or an oatmeal canister drum. Have fun!

This is also a great activity for hand-eye coordination!
