Handprint Art

ages 0-6

Dessert-size plates with decorative border (or can be decorated if plates are plain, ribbon, non-toxic craft paint, foam brushes, optional poem and picture, permanent marker.

Activity Detail

This is a very simple, lightweight craft that is a great one to send by mail. Purchase some dessert-type disposable plates with a decorative border and some coordinating ribbon. Using non-toxic craft paint, paint your child's hand with a foam brush and make a print in the center of the plate. Cut 3-4 inch pieces of ribbon and punch holes at the top of each plate. Loop ribbon through and tie in bows or knots. Older children can write a message at the top ("Happy Mother's Day" or "Happy Birthday"), and an extra-nice touch is gluing a recent picture onto the back. Be sure to note the date of the handprints and/or age of the child. The plates make a really nice vertical hanging display and nest together for easy mailing.
