Picture Ornament Christmas Tree

ages 3-6

Green construction paper or poster board, scissors, printed photographs, glue

Activity Detail

This is a fun holiday craft for children to use to decorate their rooms. Cut a Christmas tree shape out of a large piece of green construction paper or poster board. Have your child help you look through photographs (printed or on the computer) and select some to use. If you end up with a lot of photographs, you could create themed trees -- one for relatives, one for friends, one for classmates, and so on. Print or copy the pictures on card stock and then cut out the faces in round shapes. Help your child glue the round pictures onto the tree as ornaments, and display the finished tree in your child's room. This is a great way for a child to remember relatives and loved ones throughout the holiday season.

I think this would be a great idea to do with all of the photo Christmas cards you get in the mail. Children love to make crafts with photos and see their friends and family members in their own room!

This is a variation on the many homemade ornament ideas out there. It's a nice enough idea, but could be fleshed out, perhaps by gluing small circular dried pasta shapes spray-painted in silver or gold around the picture on the tree.
