Family Flashcards

ages 1-4

Pictures, card stock or laminate, hole punch, length of ribbon.

Activity Detail

This is the grown-up version of the Who Loves Baby book that both my kids adored. Take photos of family and friends who don't live nearby and adhere them to card stock or have them laminated. Then either use them like flashcards or punch a hole in the corner and fasten them together with a ribbon. Either way you choose to do it, you can sit and talk with you child about who's in the picture and even recall the last time your child saw that person. This helps family seem more familiar next time your child sees them!

For older children you could make two copies of the pictures and play a memory matching game with the pictures.

This activity is appealing for its simplicity and is a nice way to help make seeing relatives less intimidating if a child doesn't see them that often. I am not sure how effective it would be a child in the age 1-2 range.

You could also put the person's name on the back of the card and quiz the child about the name or how to spell it.
