Pointillism for Preschoolers

ages 3-6

Multi-colored construction paper, scissors, glue

Activity Detail

Seurat's got nothing on your kid! Cut out lots of small circles of colored construction paper. Then, give your child an image to recreate. Good ones to start with are things like big ladybugs or flowers. See if your child can take the small pieces of paper and put them together to recreate the image on a separate page. When the work is done, you'll have your own piece of art, a la the pointillists. (Older kids can try a truer form of pointillism, with Dot-Dot markers.)

My child loves making works of art and this adds a new creative "twist".

Squares of paper could also be used to create a mosaic effect. Squares are also easier and faster to cut out!
