First and Last Letters
A great way to begin teaching your child to recognize his or her name in writing is to focus on the first and last letters of the name. So, for example, if your child's name were Bobby, you would focus on teaching B and Y first. This can be done by creating pages for those two letters where you find examples of those letters in magazines and paste them onto the pages or where you write that letter very big and then paste pictures of things that begin with the letter. Or use magnetic letters on the refrigerator to reinforce the learning of those two letters first. Then, teach your child to recognize those letters in his or her name. Lastly, you can help your child to pick out his or her name from a list by looking at the first and last letters.
