It's Hard to Say Goodbye
Sometimes it can be hard to stop doing something that is fun. A good way to make the transition easier is to help your child say goodbye to whatever it is that your child is doing. For example, if your child is playing with a toy and it's time for another child to have a turn, help your child to say, "Goodbye ball. I'll play with you again soon." That moment of closure can help your child to end the activity a little more calmly and feel less like he is being dragged away from something he's enjoying doing. When my child is having an especially hard time ending an activity, I will sometimes talk in a silly voice like I am the object or game that he is playing. In fact, just this morning, I pretended to be a bottle of maple syrup so that he would say goodbye to it and let me put it back in the pantry.
