Slow and Fast

ages 1-5

Supplies

Music

Activity Detail

This activity can be done with or without music. If you have a CD with different tempos of music, randomly play small sections of songs that are fast or slow. When your child hears a fast song, tell him to move fast. When the song is slow, tell your child to move slowly. If you don't have music, just call out the tempo - "Move fast, now move slow." This activity will encourage active listening skills.

For parents interested in encouraging an interest in music, this seems like a good activity. I'm not sure how long it could hold the interest of a lot of kids, but it is worth trying, especially if music is a priority.

You could also call out different ways of moving besides just teh speed. Maybe "hop fast" or "slither slowly" would be fun, too.
