Activity Detail

Next time you read a story to your preschooler, try this activity to develop his problem solving and creative thinking skills. When you get to a point in the story where the character faces a problem or needs to make a decision, stop reading and ask your child to describe what he might do in a similar situation. Encourage him to explain his choices.

Very good activity - especially for children needing help with social skills.

This is a great exercise to do with your child. I'll also often ask my son during various points in a story, "and what do you think [the character] did next?"

The questions don't have to be specifically about problem solving. They can ask about other things depending on the age of the child.
