Daily Journal

ages 4-6

Spiral notebook

Activity Detail

Each night before you put your child to bed, set aside a few minutes to reflect on the day. In a spiral notebook, ask your child what the best or worst part of his/ her day was and have them draw a simple picture. You can then write what your child says about his/her picture on the same page. Date this and you will have memories for years to come!

You would probably have to change it to make it more creative after some time--may get a little redundant, but a good idea!

I love this idea! Years down the road you will be so glad you did it! In the interest of time perhaps you can do a drawing once per week. Each night you could ask and record a different question about their day.

I like this idea in theory. I just don't see how I will be able to put it into practice on a regular, nightly basis, given how tired both my son and I are by then, and that we already have an established bedtime story ritual that takes up time at night. As an occasional pre-bed activity though, it is a nice way to be able to look back on different times in your child's life. I think it could work also when applied to your child's recollections of his/her birthday party every year, or family vacations and other big events in your child's life. (The whole idea of doing this activity right before bed when everyone is tired just doe not appeal, but incorporating it earlier on in the day would definitely work!)
