Homemade Holiday Cards 101

ages 2-6

Colored cardstock for card base; craft glue; markers and crayons; found objects collected during the year, such as paper, cards, buttons, stickers, ribbon, felt, etc.

Activity Detail

Throughout the year I collect small bits of ribbon, gift wrap, stickers, pretty greeting cards I have received, buttons, gift tags, etc that I keep in a zippered plastic bag. Each time a holiday rolls around, my child and I get out the bag and create homemade cards to send to our friends and family. He colors on the cards and then shows me where he wants the various 'found items' glued to the card. Grandparents love to receive such personal gifts!

This is certainly a creative activity. I recommend having all the supplies out before asking you child if they want to participate (set up takes a bit of time). This activity could become a holiday tradition in your household! I would suggest that it not be limited to Christmas....I think it would be great for sending cards to children in the hospital, or seniors in the Sr. Citizen homes.

This activity is also great for reminding little ones of family members' names before you see them at the holiday dinner!
