Sudoku for Kids

ages 4-6

Paper; marker, crayon or pen; 4 pennies, 4 nickels, 4 dimes, and 4 quarters (or 4 of 4 different 'pieces')

Activity Detail

If you are a Sudoku fan, you will enjoy working on this project with your child. Make a mini Sudoku board -- 4 square boxes comprised of four smaller squares. Gather four each of four different kinds of coins (or cut out 4 different shaped pieces and make sure you have 4 of each shape). Now, show your child the 'object' of the game: Have each type of coin (or other playing piece) appear only once in each box, each row, and each column. Watch their little minds go to work! (And see your newspaper for a sample Sudoku game.)

We have also had fun using colors.

This might be a good activity, but I don't know how to play sudoku or what the "object" of the game is myself. I would need a better explanation to do this with my child.

My four-year-old got a little frustrated and lost interest. Probably better for older kids.
