Pasta Jewelry
ages 2-5
Supplies
Different shapes of uncooked pasta tubes (macaroni, wheels, rigatoni), several colors of craft paint, yarn, white glue, craft scissors, newspapers.
Activity Detail
Spread some of newspapers over your work area, and then pour some different pasta shapes out on the newspaper. Let your child help you paint each of the pasta shapes with different colors of craft paint, and then let the paint dry thoroughly. While the paint is drying, pour some white glue into a bowl or onto a paper plate. Mix a small amount of water into the glue. Using a paintbrush, coat each piece of the painted pasta with a layer of the glue mixture. This will keep the paint from rubbing off. Allow the pasta to dry. While the pasta is drying, cut off a piece of yarn long enough for a necklace or bracelet. Tie a double knot in one end of the yarn, making it large enough to prevent the pasta from sliding off. Once the pasta pieces are dry, thread them onto the string of yarn, alternating the pasta shapes and colors. Once you have finished stringing the pasta onto the yarn, tie the two ends together to complete the piece of jewelry.
