Dollar bills ($5, $10, $20 or more works too!)
This is a great activity if you are waiting at an airport, the doctor's office, or for a bus. Take out some dollar bills (or higher) and have your child find the numbers and letters printed on them. For older children, you can ask them to tell you the number that follows the number they just read to you and the same goes for the letters. More than working on just pre-reading skills, you can also use this as a way to teach your child to identify money.
