Choose-a-Chore

ages 2-4

Supplies

None.

Activity Detail

Toddlers love to 'help' around the house. A great way to teach them to help with chores and enjoy them at the same time is to turn them into a game. Let your child choose a chore to help with (e.g. laundry or unloading the dishwasher). For laundry, ask them to sort the clothes by color, dark colors in one pile, and whites in the other. Then let them throw the clothes into the washer, pour in the soap and watch the clothes agitate. After laundry is done, let him/her carry the folded clothes to the bedroom and help them place the clothes in the correct drawer. For unloading the dishwasher, let the child take dishes out and stack like dishes together. My son also loves to sort the silverware and put it in the correct bin of the silverware tray. Count the number of dishes in each stack, or the silverware in each bin. Challenge them to properly nest measuring cups and spoons.

Not only will children love helping their parents, but it's a fun way to teach responsibility to kids!

This is a great way to take advantage of your child's natural desire to be your little helper.

We created seperate "little" clothes baskets so each child can take their clothes to their own rooms. It is also fun to have a chart and when a child does a specific chore, put a sticker next to its listing.
