Spinning a Spiderweb

ages 3-6

Supplies

Several balls of string or yarn, small gifts or party favors.

Activity Detail

This activity is suited for several children -- a special playdate, or small birthday party. Designate one room as the spiderweb room. To begin creating the web, attach a small present to the end of a ball of string, and hide it somewhere out of sight within the room. Then take the string, and wind it around the room and furniture (or this could be done outside in a yard or park as well). Then tape the other end of the string to the room's door. Repeat the same process for as many children as will play the game. When the children open the door to the room, they will be amazed at the beautiful spiderweb you have created! It is their job to unwind their pieces of string to reach the surprise at the other end.

I think this would be a perfect party idea for a little boy having a Spider-Man party but I could alos see this being fun at any party or afternoon too!

This could turn into a fun tradition. For example, each year the same game could be done to find a special valentine or birthday present.

This could also be done with a couple of your own kids and their favorite toys -- especially on a rainy day.
