Valentine Relay

ages 3-6

Red construction paper hearts, one per child; black marker; long piece of string or yarn

Activity Detail

Cut out a red paper heart for each child. Write an action word on each heart, such as jump, crawl, hop, skip, and walk backwards. Write the same word on two of the hearts, and place them in separate piles. You will end up with two piles of hearts, one for each relay team. Have the kids line up in two single file lines, behind a piece of yarn. Place the hearts face down, across the room from each team. Say, "Go," and the first player runs up to the pile and takes a heart. The player must do the action all the way back to their team. Repeat until all the kids have had a turn and all the hearts are gone. The team finished first wins.

I like the spin on relay races. This activity can be adjusted for any holiday or just everyday which is good.

What a great idea for a party game! This activity can be modified to fit any birthday party theme or holiday by using different shapes and colors for the action words.
