Pinecone Bird Feeder

ages 3-6

Supplies

Pine cone, peanut butter, bird seed, string

Activity Detail

We recently had our pine trees trimmed, and we ended up with a ton of pine cones so I tried to come up with activities that my kids would enjoy. This one isn't just fun for the kids; it's also good for the birds. Take one pine cone, thread some picture-hanging wire or string through the bottom, make a loop, and tie a knot with the two ends. This will act as the hanger for your bird feeder. Cover the pine cone with peanut butter and then sprinkle it with bird seed. Hang the feeder from a tree or somewhere outside where the birds can congregate. Be sure to hang it in place where the kids can see!

Children love to make something and then watch it be used by nature! Birdfeeders are always a big hit with my boys!
