If You're Happy and You Know It, Talk about It.

ages 4-6

Activity Detail

This is a good conversation starter for the dinner table. Pick a feeling and ask, 'What was the most (fun, scary, embarassing, happy, silly, angering) experience this week?' Everyone takes turns telling a true story from the week. Turn it into a friendly competition of feelings and take a family vote to decide the winner in each category.

This is a great conversation starter for the dinner table, and helps kids focus on their emotions. Parents can also suggest ways to deal with negative experiences through role-playing or real-life examples.

I love this idea because it encourages talking and sharing by each person at the table. Family dinners and discussion are so important!

This activity is a great way to get kids to open up after a day at school when "nothing" has happened.

We something similar each night at dinner--good thing/not good thing. My 4 yr old daughter loves it. I think it helps her feel included in the conversation.
