Patriotic Plants

ages 3-6

An unglazed terracotta plant pot; red, white and blue acrylic paint; paint brushes.

Activity Detail

These will look festive on your front porch for the 4th of July or any of our patriotic holidays. Begin by painting the rim of the flowerpot white and the lower part of the pot blue (or paint the rim blue and the lower part white). Let the paint dry. A second coat may be needed, especially for the white paint. Next, paint white stars on the blue portion and paint red stripes on the white part. Plant some white impatiens or red geraniums for a beautiful and patriotic display.

Cute idea! Painting stars might be hard for some of us--I'd include a stencil of a star as a helpful idea.

Not only do children love painting a flower pot, they love to watch a plant grow!
