Make a Pencil Holder

ages 3-6

Supplies

Small empty soup can, dry pasta noodles, various shapes and sizes, craft glue, paint, paint brushes, newspaper

Activity Detail

Cover your workspace with newspaper. Using paintbrushes, let your child help you to coat the outside of a clean, dry aluminum can with tacky craft glue, such as Aleene's. Have your child roll the can in small dry pasta noodles, or apply larger dry noodles one at a time. Allow this to dry completely, probably 1-2 hours or longer. Then paint! Makes a great and functional gift.

This is a perfect Father's Day gift idea for their desk at their office.

The fundamentals are there for this activity, though I think the pencil holder could be embellished further by adding glitter or using sparkly spray paint. The pasta could even be painted beforehand if it is big enough.
