Signs of Thanksgiving
ages 2-6
Supplies
Any natural items from your backyard like leaves, pine cones, twigs, strips of bark, etc.; colored card stock; tacky glue; glue stick; and twine.
Activity Detail
A great way for kids to help greet your Thanksgiving dinner guests. Have them collect leaves, pine cones, twigs, strips of bark, and other natural decor. Assemble and glue the collection of objects to sheets of colored card stock to form various messages like "Give Thanks." Use tacky glue for heavier items, like pine cones, and a glue stick for lighter ones, like leaves. Once the glue dries, fold and tape the top edges of the sheets over lengths of twine. Then tie the ends of the twine together to create a banner that displays your holiday messages.

The signs are so cute! We tried a variation where I wrote "We are thankful for..." on the first sign and the children came up with their own list of words or phrases to put on the subsequent signs.

This is a nice idea because it incorporates so many different concepts like going on a nature walk, celebrating thanksgiving, and art. You many want to restrain your kids if you can from picking up pinecones etc. that are too big since it's harder to glue.
