Go Speed Racer!
ages 2-6
Supplies
Chalk, something to ride on, a big and safe concrete area
Activity Detail
A fun game for your little speed demon: Find a large concrete area. The driveway is a good choice, as long as it's safe! Draw a chalk racetrack on your driveway, and then let your child speed around it on her trike or big wheel. If you don't have a driveway (or don't have a safe one), you can draw a long line down the sidewalk, and let your child race to the finish line! For extra fun, bring a dish towel or scarf outside to use as a starting flag.
Comments
To integrate some additional safety concepts into this activity, you can add some directionality arrows to designate the flow of traffic (especially if there are multiple children). The children can take turns as "law enforcement" and put up stop or yield signs. Your enforcer can also write tickets, but make them positive citations for driving carefully, yielding to cross traffic or wearing a helmet. : )

An alternative is to draw railroad tracks for a choo choo train ride.

My son thinks this is great! We have created a smaller version for his Hot Wheel cars.
