Seashell Memory Box
Plastic food container with lid (round preferably), white glue and brush for glue, acrylic paint and paintbrush, assorted seashells
Here is a fun way for your child to remember her last trip to the beach! Wash off the seashells that you brought home and turn them into a nice keepsake. Begin by finding an old but clean plastic food container (like one of the Ziploc or Glad ones) that you're willing to part with. Then, let your child paint the sides, the base, and the outside of the lid with acrylic paint -- an older child might want to paint a beach scene around the sides. Once the paint has dried, you and your child can begin gluing seashells to the lid. It's a good idea to arrange the seashells on the lid first, making sure that you like the way that they look before you glue them down. Once you have settled on an arrangement, dip a small brush into some white glue and paint the glue around the edges of the seashell. Then add one additional drop of glue to the spot on the box where the base of the seashell will be attached. Then, let your child replace the seashell in its place and hold it down for a few seconds. Repeat until all of the seashells have been glued on. Once the shells have dried, your child will have a great memory box for all of his or her mementos from the summer.
