Puzzle Stories
ages 1-3
Supplies
Outgrown puzzles or ones they didn't take to in the first place, optional: cardboard containers, markers or paints, glue for making 'sets.'
Activity Detail
Wooden puzzle pieces, especially the chunky ones or ones with pegs, make great 'characters' for pretend play. If your child is through with fitting the pieces into the spaces, or just never took to puzzles, store the board and use the pieces. If you want to be really creative, you can create a shoe box barn or zoo for animal puzzle pieces, or a garage for car and truck puzzle pieces. New life for old toys!
Comments
I never would have thought of doing this! I like the idea of "recycling" an unused or little used toy, and I think older children would enjoy the activity too if making a set for the puzzle pieces.

For added fun, go ahead and paint over the puzzle pieces to help create new characters!

Older children can create their own stories using the pieces. My son loves to use the pieces as "action figures."
