At-Home Scavenger Hunt
ages 3-6
Supplies
Pictures of favorite things, scissors, glue
Activity Detail
Create a scavenger hunt for your child by creating a photo list of his or her favorite things. An easy way to create the list is to take photos of your child's things with a digital camera and then print the pictures onto plain paper -- alternately, you can find photos of similar things on the internet. Once you have gathered your pictures, cut them out and paste them onto a piece of paper to create your scavenger hunt list. (Kids love to help with the cutting and gluing part!) Be sure to put the name of the item next to the picture to help your child with pre-reading skills. Once the list is ready, give it to your child go to town finding the things in the house. With older children, it's fun to hide the objects for them to find.

It's fun to do a scavenger hunt and incorporate the alphabet or numbers into the adventure, so the children get even more out of the activity.

Need a lot of time for this one! Good for sleepovers.

We used cutouts from old magazines to create our photo list. That part of the activity - making the list - was an activity in and of itself! This could be a 2 or 3 day activity, if you want.
