Ball Match
ages 3-6
Supplies
Shoe box, tennis ball, golf ball, styrofoam ball, and a ping-pong ball.
Activity Detail
Cut a hole in the side of a shoe box. Make sure the hole is big enough for your child's hand to fit inside. Put a tennis ball, golf ball, ping-pong ball, and a styrofoam ball inside the box and replace the lid. On the table next to the box, have another tennis ball, ping-pong ball, golf ball, and styrofoam ball that are identical to the balls inside the box. Have your child reach through the hole and feel one of the balls. Then without allowing your child to look at the ball inside the box, see if he or she can determine which ball on the table it matches. This activity is a great way to focus on the sense of touch.

This game also works with blocks or Lego-type toys of varying sizes and shapes.

Great for one-to-one correspondence. Make the hole big enough that the child does not get frustrated.
