Flag Walk

ages 2-6


Activity Detail

Take a walk around your neighborhood on around the Fourth of July or Memorial Day and count the number of American flags that you find. Teach your older child how to keep a running tally (four lines down and one line across) and then you can practice counting by fives when you get home.

This is a nice activity for teaching American history and an awareness of what the American flag means. In all honesty though, I wasn't sure what was mean by "keeping a running tally" and think this could be clarified more since this activity definitely has a lot of potential!
